India Gate : India Gate was designed by Sir Edwin
Lutyens .Located on Rajpath, the road which leads to the magnificent
Rashtrapati Bhawan, the gate is 160 feet high with an arch of 138
feet. Built from sandstone, the arch also houses the Eternal Flame,
a gesture in memory of the Indian soldiers who laid their lives in
the 1971 war with Pakistan.

Rashtrapati Bhawan : Rashtrapati Bhavan was built by
Lutyens and Sir Herbert Baker.The building is located in an area of
130 hectares, the palace has 340 rooms. This immense palace, larger
than Versailles, was created for the Viceroy and is now the
residence of the President of India. With the exception of the
central copper dome there are few concessions to Indian
architectural style and despite its classical columns the building
is unmistakably British and, like most great Indian monuments, is a
potent symbol of imperial power.

Red Fort : The Red Fort, known locally as Lal Quila, is
Delhi's signature attraction, rising high above the clamour of Old
Delhi as a reminder of the wealth and power of the Mogul empire.The
mughal emperor, Shah Jahan, after ruling from Agra for eleven years,
decided to shift to Delhi and laid the foundation stone of the Red
Fort in 1618.the main halls of the palace were draped in rich
tapestry and covered with silk from china and velvet from Turkey. So
called because of the red stone with which it is built, the Red Fort
is one of the most magnificent palaces in the world.

Qutub Minar :
The Qutb Minar was built between 1193 and 1369.Qutab-ud-din Aibak,
the first Muslim ruler of Delhi, commenced the construction of the
Qutab Minar but could only finish the basement. His successor,
Iltutmush, added three more storeys, and Firoz Shah Tughlak
constructed the fifth and the last storey. The development of
architectural styles from Aibak to Tughlak are quite evident in the
minar There are five distinct stories each encircled with a balcony,
the first three are built of red sandstone, and the upper two are
faced with white marble.

Rajghat : Rajghat is the place where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated. A
memorial to the father of the nation, Rajghat is a simple square
platform with a black memorial stone with "Hey Ram" inscribed on
it.Located on the west bank of the River Yamuna.Rajghat is
surrounded by a wooded area and several exotic shrubs.Walk along the

Purana Quila : The fort is said to be constructed
by Humayun and Sher Shah.It has three main gates of which entry was
forbidden through the Talaqi Darwaza. The other gates that led to
the Purana Qila were the Bara Darwaza and the Humayun Darwaza.

Jama Masjid : It is situated on a hill a few hundred
yards west of the Red Fort and towers over the mayhem of Old Delhi's
sprawling streets. Jama Masjid is India's largest mosque and can
hold 25,000 worshipers at one time. Wide red sandstone steps lead to
entrances on the North, South and East sides of the mosque. Inside
is the massive courtyard dominated by two red and white striped
sandstone minarets that cap the main prayer hall on the west side
(facing Mecca).

Bhavan.Jantar Mantar is an amazing astronomical observatory that was
constructed by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II of Jaipur.Jantar Mantar
is a collection of massive stone astronomical instruments that aid
in making accurate astronomical calculations. Raja Sawai Jai Singh
drew inspiration for the construction of Jantar Mantar from the
observatory at Samarkhand that was constructed by Ulugh Beg.

Akshardham Temple in Delhi has been constructed under the patronage
of the Bochasanvasi Aksharpurushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS)
and was inaugurated on November 7, 2005. This temple complex has
been built on the banks of the serene River Yamuna and lies over a
sprawling 100 acres of lush manicured lawns adorned with water
fountains and carved pavilions. A whopping 2 billion was spent on
the construction of this grand place of worship that took about 2
years to build. The main monument at the Akshardham temple in Delhi
is about 141-foot high and houses a lovely statue of Lord
Swaminarayan.
